Local man honored for being hero in Hispanic community

HOUSTON Filiberto Cardenas was chosen among thousands of people nominated across the country to receive the Bien Hecho or the "done right" award, from Scott Brand. Cardenas is a maintenance worker who is known for helping his neighbors, especially the elderly, with home repairs at no charge.

He did it all with no plans of ever being recognized for his acts of kindness. Today that changed.

"Thank you for nominating me. I wasn't planning on being here receiving this award. It's an honor," said Cardenas.

Cardenas was awarded a check for $2,000, and $5,000 more to be donated to the charity of his choice. He picked the Salvation Army.
