A Houston police officer was involved in a wreck in downtown Houston Thursday morning. According to a police spokesperson, the officer was traveling on Crawford approaching the intersection at Leeland when for some reason, his brakes failed and he rolled through the intersection. That's when he was struck by an Acura that had the light, t-boning the officer and jamming his driver's side door.

Rescue crews from HFD arrived and pried the driver's side door off the patrol vehicle. The officer was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. There's no word on his condition.

The other driver was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital suffering from chest pains.

HPD fleet maintenance department will examine the vehicle to determine why the brakes failed.
