HPD: A lesson now; ticket later

July 12, 2010 5:38:17 AM PDT
Houston police will begin a two week education campaign today to stop drivers who don't change lanes or slow down when an emergency vehicle is pulled over with its lights flashing. The 'Move Over or Slow Down" law went into effect in 2003. It requires drivers approaching an emergency vehicle with its lights flashing to change lanes or slow to 20 miles below the posted speed limit.

Next week, offenders will be ticketed for as much as $500.
