UH to implement furlough program

The University of Houston will require most faculty and staff to take a day off without pay next month, that's according to the Houston Chronicle. It's all a part of an effort to cut more than $15 million from its budget over the next 17 months. The furlough, combined with other cutbacks, will help trim five percent of state funding from the university's budget for the next two fiscal years.

This comes as, not too long ago, the university also approved a record tuition increase. The furlough would be the first in the institution's history.
