Activists ask for HFD investigation

HOUSTON The Shape Center, Lulac, La Raza Justice Movement and the Black Heritage Society sent a letter to the attorney general, saying the group wants the Department of Justice to investigate racism and sexism within HFD.

"We cannot tolerate any group especially ones that we are paying with our dime to humiliate us as they've done at the Houston Fire Department," said civil rights activist Ovide Duncantell.

HFD said it has not heard from any of these activists, but will be glad to talk to any member of the groups to hear their concerns.

The activists pointed out that nooses were found in Houston fire stations. Female firefighters also say they were harassed in their fire houses. The women claim their personal property was defaced and someone put body fluids into their food.
