Judge orders Tigua tribe's casino to close games

A federal judge says El Paso's Tigua tribe must shut down its gift-card awarding slot machines. U.S. District Judge Harry Hudspeth ruled yesterday that the electronic and sweepstakes games at the tribe's Speaking Rock Casino in east El Paso violate a 2001 court order that closed the once-lucrative casino.

The Tiguas has been fighting the state since then-Attorney General John Cornyn won a bid to shut down the casino, contending that it was an illegal gaming operation.
