New vaccination rules to go into effect

July 27, 2009 9:13:13 AM PDT
Parents, here's some news that could save you a few hours in the waiting room. There is less than a week before some new vaccination rules go into effect. As of August 1, the state begins a new vaccination schedule, including new shots for incoming kindergartners and incoming 7th graders.

This fall, new 7th graders will need to show proof of five separate shots, including one for chicken pox, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis or whooping cough and meningitis.

Pediatricians are recommending parents start making appointments to have their children vaccinated now, since doctors' offices will be crowded later.

Find full details in the new state guidelines.
