The former anchor of the CBS Evening News and one-time "most-trusted man in America" died Friday at the age of 92. A private funeral service is set for Thursday at the Manhattan church Cronkite attended for years. A public memorial service is being planned at New York's Lincoln Center within the next month.

Cronkite will be cremated and his remains will be buried next to his wife Betsy, in the family plot in Kansas City, Missouri.

Cronkite was born in Missouri in 1916, but his family moved to Houston when he was 10. He later became the editor of the newspaper at the former San Jacinto High School and eventually worked at the Houston Press.

Cronkite was hired by Edward R. Murrow in 1950 to join CBS. Later in his career, he often returned to Houston, covering the development of the space program here.
