Galveston throws party to celebrate 'rebirth day'

GALVESTON, TX Businesses in downtown's historic district are re-opening every day. So the city decided to throw a party with live music and street entertainment on Saturday.

"A lot of our businesses and business owners could have said, you know what, I'm not going to come back and do this," said Galveston Mayor Lyda Ann Thomas. "But the majority of them have been very resilient and we're simply celebrating the fact that Galvestonians are coming back in spite of a severely damaged city."

The all-day festivities started on Post Office Street and moved through downtown to the Tremont House. The hotel is set to re-open Monday.
