Man hit, killed trying to cross highway

At around 11pm, the off-duty officer, who was in his personal car, was heading southbound on Highway 249 near Fallbrook when a man tried to walk across the road. The off-duty officer was not able to avoid him.

The man was hit and he died at the scene. Authorities think the victim may have been intoxicated.
