Woman smoking in bed rescued from fire

The first happened at a home 33rd Street near Yale in northwest Houston. Crews say the one story home was fully involved when they arrived. Firefighters went into defensive mode and even had to spray water on two cars when they also caught fire.

No one was hurt. Arson is now investigating.

Firefighters had to rescue a woman from a second house fire in southeast Houston.

Firefighters helped get an elderly woman to safety and then worked to put out the fire. The woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters believe the fire started after the woman was smoking in bed.
