Man wielding butcher knives shot to death

It all started when Montgomery County deputies responded to a noise complaint at the Tamarac apartment complex on Six Pines at Fern Ridge. When they arrived, a man in the apartment in question, identified as Jack Steven Head, wouldn't come out, reportedly saying he was going to get his knives and kill them.

Deputies say they tried to reason with Head when he came out with a pair of large butcher knives and then moved towards them aggressively. That's whey deputies shot Head. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died.

One woman who had met Head says while nothing surprises her anymore, she still saw no sign this would happen.

"I knew the boy. He came to play bingo, but he couldn't hear and we have a monitor and we told him to watch the monitor," aid resident Peggy Marshall. "And he seemed like he was real friendly, even though he didn't talk as much or couldn't hear or at least he said he couldn't hear."

Marshall lives in a building not far from where Head lives. She was not one of the residents who complained about the noise.

The deputy who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The Montgomery County Sheriff's office, the DA's office and the Texas Rangers are all investigating the incident.
