Evelyn Leightman

HOUSTON Since moving to Houston, Evelyn has been involved with many community organizations. She is an active member of the National Council of Jewish Women and president of the Greater Houston Section for two years.

Evelyn became involved with the Texas chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society after being diagnosed with leukemia in 1999. She successfully completed another round of treatments after the disease reappeared in 2007. She has served on the board for five years and chaired the 2007 and 2008 Service to Mankind galas.

She is an active member of the Houston Ballet Guild board and has held numerous positions, including serving as chairman of the Nutcracker Market in 2006. Evelyn has served on the board of University of Houston Moore's school of music and was recently elected to the board of sisterhood at Congregation Beth Israel.

This grandmother of four also has a love of horticulture, attending Houston's sporting and cultural events, and traveling with Dan, her wonderful husband of 42 years.

Evelyn hopes that through her volunteer commitments and accomplishments she will inspire family and friends to give back and help others in need.
