Internships at 13abc/WTVG

WTVG 13abc offers internships in three different areas of the business: News, Production, and Sales (Advertising/Marketing). Internship opportunities are available year-round for currently enrolled college students who are pursuing careers in TV/Broadcasting and other related fields.

Our internship program provides students with an educational experience. Students will have the opportunity to learn and participate in their chosen field.

The objective is to help the student gain first-hand knowledge of their chosen field and of the broadcasting business to help with their career development.

Criteria

  • Must be a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
  • Must receive college credit in exchange for internship
  • Internships are performed within one complete semester
  • Major in Sales and Marketing, and knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs is mandatory (Sales)
  • Must be within a year of graduation (Sales)

Students must submit a resume, with a cover letter, to WTVG Human Resource Department by mail, fax or email to WTVG.HR@abc.com. Make sure that in the cover letter, you state specifically which department you would like to intern in and when.

Resumes will be given to the appropriate department head for review. Interviews will be handled by the management in the department you wish to perform your internship.

A student's college must submit a letter containing the following information:

  • Student's name
  • Student's major
  • Current college status (i.e., sophomore, junior, etc.)
  • Requested semester for internship
  • Statement that college credit will be given in exchange for the internship

News Intern
As a 13ABC News Intern you will have the ability to become familiar with all aspects of newscast production. Writing and organizational skills are highly stressed and, as an intern, you will have access to many resources that will allow you to improve in these areas.

Production Intern
As a Production Intern you will have the ability to become familiar with all aspects of commercial and news production. These will include on-location commercial production with Betacam SP and SX formats, Avid editing on state-of-the-art equipment, and graphic production using Adobe After-Effects and Vizrt. Writing and organizational skills are highly stressed and, as an intern, you will have access to many resources that will allow you to expand in these areas.

Sales Intern
Interns in the Sales Department are significantly exposed to the art of selling, research, and preparation. They will learn the importance of television ratings and audience demographics. Interns will experience sales presentations, assist account executives with such presentations, role play and, on occasion, travel with account executives to meetings with clients.
