70-year-old woman becomes reserve deputy

HOUSTON Mary Sikes became a cop at an age when many are already retired. Yesterday, she graduated from the Law Enforcement Academy at Lone Star College. The 70-year-old decided to do it after she started writing a book.

"I was writing a book about a woman who becomes a police officer and I could not get the access to the Houston Police Academy that I needed to do the research," she said.

Sikes will serve as a reserve deputy with the Montgomery County precinct five constables office.
