Shooting breaks out at park

HOUSTON Mercer Park is a nice retreat on Aldine Westfield most weekends. But not when the flashing lights of Precinct 4 squad cars outnumber park-goers. They were looking for an armed 19-year-old who robbed a man and his daughter of their cell phone and keys while in the park. He then carjacked a woman nearby. All the while, the teenager was randomly firing shots.

"This guy came running out of the woods waving a gun," recalled witness David Hebert. "I didn't really notice it was a gun at first."

Hebert was driving by the teen, trying to avoid him.

"As soon as we get by him, we hear a loud pop," Hebert said.

Only later did Hebert notice the teen had hit his truck. That loud pop was a gunshot and bullet that tore through his rearview mirror.

Police did catch up with teen miles from the park and arrested him. Precinct 4 deputies tell Eyewitness News they think the teen is wanted for robbery in Louisiana, but they have yet to confirm that.

Despite all of the gunshots, nobody was hurt.
