Damage at auto shops caused by wind
Two auto shops suffered extensive damage after strong winds in Pasadena

PASADENA, TX (KTRK) -- Wind caused some serious damage to a couple of auto repair shops in Pasadena Saturday afternoon.

The Pasadena police department got reports of heavy wind damage at a shop on South Shaver near Sachnik around 3:15pm.

Authorities say severe wind caused the roof to collapse. There were three vehicles underneath the rubble.

But we've spoken with several people who say it was more than that. One woman who lives on the street behind this shop says it got dark outside, something was swirling, then a quick gust of wind. She says it only lasted a few seconds.

We spoke with another man whose friend's car was being inspected at the time. He tells us his friend tried to move his car when he noticed the sky getting dark, and as soon as he got in the car the gust came through and the roof collapsed with him still inside.

We've learned that the strong winds also took out a pole and did significant damage to the wiring that carries electricity to the neighborhood behind the shops. Quite a few homes are without power as of Saturday night.

CenterPoint crews are working to get the lights back on. There's no word yet on whether the power has been restored.

Authorities have not confirmed if a tornado caused the damage. The good news is nobody was hurt.
