HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The tropical moisture that gave a few of us a shower Friday is moving out and a heat dome is settling in. This will keep Southeast Texas hot and dry with near triple-digit temperatures not only this weekend but next week too.
Temperatures Saturday morning are quite warm already, starting off in the upper 70s near 80 degrees. And with a bright and sunny day ahead, high temperatures will quickly make it into the mid-upper 90s. Heat index values throughout the afternoon will range between 105 to 110 at times, just below the threshold for a Heat Advisory. Make sure you wear sunscreen, stay hydrated and takes breaks to cool off form the heat if you have extended outdoor plans today.
It's going to be a hot, humid, and rain-free weekend. A heat dome will begin to settle in across the region over the weekend, likely giving highs a boost into the upper 90s. The heat index both Saturday and Sunday afternoon could peak near 107 degrees. There is no rain in the forecast for the weekend. Please stay hydrated and cool if you're headed to the Pride Parade. Parade time feels like temps will still be above 100.
Rain chances are slim to none over the next few days. Dry air is over the state of Texas and a heat dome will help reinforce this drier pattern. It's not until later next week when the heat dome begins to move farther west that will allow for an increase in moisture levels from the gulf. We've got a 20% chance for rain by Friday and for the following weekend.
Tropical Storm Lala passes by Hawaii Saturday and could bring hurricane force winds and flooding to the Big Island. Meanwhile there's only one wave with a low chance of developing in the Atlantic.
