Another chance for storms Monday, Flood Watch continues

Scattered storms possible Sunday and Monday.
A tornado watch, flood watch, and severe thunderstorm watch have been issued for portions of Southeast Texas.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Tornado Watch that was issued for portions of Southeast Texas expired at 7 p.m. Sunday and our ABC13 Weather Alert Day is also over. The chance for severe weather Sunday night is decreasing, but it's not the last chance for strong storms over the next 24 hours.

A light showers will move through Southeast Texas Sunday night as temperatures hover in the mid 70s. A warm front is lingering overhead into Monday which is why there's another chance for showers and storms to start the week.

A Flood Watch also continues for our northern counties and will remain in effect through Monday morning. Total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches could lead to flooding of low-lying areas or prolong flooding already occurring in some locations.

Can we expect more storms this week?

Yes, the same weather system that brought showers and a few storms Sunday will still be overhead Monday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible beginning around lunchtime Monday continuing into the evening. These storms could bring strong winds, hail and heavy rainfall that could lead to street flooding and flooding of low-lying areas. So Monday is going to be another day to keep a watchful eye on the sky and forecast. Then after Monday, the next chance for rain is Thursday.

Can we expect more storms this week?

With the continued rain will flooding become an issue again?

A Flood Watch continues through Monday morning for our counties north of Houston and I-10. At this point, the expected rainfall Sunday and Monday could prologue how the speed at which floodwaters move out, not necessarily make it worse for impacted areas. And as of Sunday evening, portions of the Brazos River in Southeast Texas are just cresting tonight in minor flood stage with a recede to come this week.
