HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The current ABC13 Weather Alert Day on Friday isn't over, and yet, conditions this coming Sunday have prompted another declaration.

A Weather Alert Day has been declared for Sunday as our team is looking at an organized complex of thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain and severe weather.

Sunday morning is currently more favored for stormy weather than that afternoon, but it could storm anytime during the day.

The declaration came after the National Weather Service extended a Flood Watch until 1 p.m. Sunday.

While the current weather pattern has proven to produce storms at unexpected times, ABC13 believes most of Saturday will be dry with just a 30% chance of additional rains.

Whether or not it rains a drop, many waterways will continue to rise downstream from the current crests, so a Weather Watch has been declared for Saturday.

Many of our counties north of I-10 are under flood warnings, including parts of Grimes, Walker, Montgomery, northern Harris, Liberty, San Jacinto, Polk, and Trinity counties.

We are also closely monitoring some of our creeks and rivers heading into flood stages - some into the major flood stage - as that extra water in some of our northern lakes and rivers makes its way down to the south.

The Flood Watch basically runs along north of I-10 for the following counties in the ABC13 viewing area:

Chambers, Grimes, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, Waller, and Washington. Widespread totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected within the watch, with isolated amounts over 4 inches.

Why is it so stormy this week?

The weather pattern this week features strong jet stream winds over Texas, which is pushing disturbances through the state that can morph into thunderstorm complexes once they encounter the moist winds from the Gulf of Mexico. These complexes can be difficult to predict more than 12 hours in advance, so stay informed and nimble with your plans this weekend. Right now we are targeting Sunday morning for the most likely time when the next round of storms arrives.

Could the storms bring heavy rain or severe weather?

Yes, it is possible that any storm complex that blows through could bring heavy rain and severe weather. Street flooding is the biggest concern due to all the rain that has fallen so far this week, but severe wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes are possible, too.

When will the stormy weather pattern end?

The pattern starts to change on Monday as a heat ridge builds in from Mexico. That should take us out of the storm track and push temperatures up toward 90 degrees by midweek.

Are there any more cool fronts coming ahead of summer?

We have one penciled in for Friday! This one looks more and more like the real deal, and it could bring a delightful drop in the humidity with pleasant temperatures for Mother's Day weekend.
