Warm and windy and mostly dry until rain chances rise Easter Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Friday is looking like another warm and windy day as an upper-level storm system approaches Texas. This same system will bring our rain chances up to 60% for Easter Sunday as a weak cool front slides into Southeast Texas.

Temperatures Friday afternoon will heat up toward 90 degrees under a partly cloudy sky. A stray shower cannot be ruled out, but most locations will stay dry.

What's the forecast for Easter weekend?

The approaching upper-level Pacific storm will bring rain chances up for Easter, but Saturday still looks mostly dry. We expect lows in the low 70s and highs in the mid-to-upper 80s both days this weekend. It looks increasingly likely that this storm system will push a cool front into Southeast Texas on Easter Sunday, but the front won't have much of a rain impact until the afternoon and evening. The front will be slowing down and stalling out somewhere near Houston, which still makes this a tricky forecast to predict the timing and placement of the rain. That said, we are fairly confident the morning will be mostly rain-free outside of a few passing showers. While we don't expect a complete washout later in the day, if you have outdoor plans in the afternoon or evening for something like an Easter egg hunt, it might be a good idea to have an indoor option just in case.

Are we in for more rain next week?

Yes! The storm system blowing by Easter Sunday will stall the front out in Southeast Texas and leave an active jet stream parked over our part of the state. We have multiple opportunities for rain with the highest odds coming around midweek.
