Cooler weather stays put as winter begins Saturday
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Wednesday's front was the first of two we're expecting this week. Another front will roll through Friday and help keep the forecast chilly this weekend.
Thursday is the first morning without the mugginess and fogginess thanks to yesterday's front. Morning lows are also nearly 20 degrees colder this morning, starting in the mid-upper 40s. The bright sunshine though will help warm things up into the afternoon with high temperatures reaching the mid-upper 60s.
When will the next front arrive?
Another cold front will pass through the area Friday evening, just in time for the first day of winter which is Saturday. That front will give us our coldest weather of the next 10 days with lows in the lower 40s and highs around 60 this weekend.
What's the outlook for Christmas Day?
It's looking more likely that it'll be a mild Christmas here in Southeast Texas. At this time, we anticipate morning lows in the 50s and daytime highs in the 70s, with a partly cloudy sky bringing only a 20% chance for showers. The mild weather very well may continue all the way until the New Year.
When could we get our first freeze in Houston?
We see no signs of freezing temperatures in southeast Texas over the next 10 days. Long-range projections indicate we'll have to wait until the first half of January for a decent chance of a freeze in Houston. On average, Houston's first freeze occurs during the second week of December.
