Here is when thunderstorms are expected to return to Southeast Texas
Our atmosphere is getting warmer as it loads up with moisture ahead of thunderstorms later this week.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- We can all feel summer's heat and humidity creeping into Southeast Texas this week as we say goodbye to April and hello to May. Eventually this moist air will produce thunderstorms, but it should stay mostly dry in Houston for Tuesday.

Temperatures overnight will only dip into the low 70s, roughly 10 degrees warmer than average for the last days of April. An upper air disturbance passing through between sunrise and noontime should generate widespread clouds and could even bring a few passing showers. We've got you down for a 20% chance of rain, but no thunderstorms are expected at this time. Otherwise it will turn into a partly sunny and warm afternoon with highs in the mid 80s.

When's our next chance for thunderstorms?

Wednesday evening. We'll be monitoring thunderstorms near Dallas and the I-20 corridor during the day as they push south toward us. This looks similar to what occurred last Thursday when the line blew into Southeast Texas just below severe levels and broke apart as it reached Houston after sunset. Rain chances for now are 40% Wednesday evening and held at 40% for Thursday when scattered thunderstorms could redevelop in the unstable air. The highest chance of rain for the week looks to be on Friday when a weak cool front blows in from the north.

Any potential severe weather for Houston?

There is a low chance the line of storms blowing in from North Texas Wednesday evening could be severe. Thursday and Friday are certainly days to watch for severe weather with the atmosphere extremely unstable.

How does the weather look for the weekend?

We expect the front blowing in Friday's storms will push just far enough into Southeast Texas to give most of us a little humidity drop with lows in the mid 60s both days this weekend. The front won't completely clear Southeast Texas, so there could still be some showers and thunderstorms southwest of Houston toward Matagorda Bay. High temperatures will still warm into the mid 80s, which is typical for the first week of May.
