Extreme steam arrives Tuesday, severe storms possible Thursday
ABC13 weather has your Houston forecast details, with doppler radar for southeast Texas and live cameras for the weather where you are, all week long.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Extreme steam is coming to a neighborhood near you on Tuesday and Wednesday, but we are on Weather Watch on Thursday for the possibility of severe thunderstorms.

We started off warm and muggy Tuesday morning and by the afternoon, we should see temperatures climb into the upper 80s. Because of all the humidity, it will feel close to 100 degrees in the afternoon.

We expect a lot of clouds in the sky, but the chance of rain is only 10%.

What's the flood outlook for this week?

River flooding is ongoing in Southeast Texas, but we are seeing improvements along the San Jacinto River watershed. In fact, by Thursday, there should be no more flooding in that watershed. It's a different story along the Trinity River. The releases from Lake Livingston continue to exceed the prior record from Hurricane Harvey, and major flooding continues downstream from Lake Livingston through Liberty County. Meanwhile, the Brazos River is rising in Washington, Waller, Austin, Fort Bend, and Brazoria Counties. Water levels are projected to reach minor to moderate flood stage later this week, especially in Brazoria County.

Why do you have the Weather Watch posted for Thursday?

We are expecting the atmosphere to become very unstable on Thursday, right as the jet stream pushes the storm track back over us. While there is a fair chance the "cap" of stable air aloft could prevent thunderstorms from forming, if the storms do form, they will quickly turn severe with severe winds, hail, and even a tornado possible. Stay weather-aware while we sort out the details over the next few days, as May is historically the peak of our spring severe weather season.

Are there any more cool fronts coming ahead of summer?

We have one penciled in for Friday! This one looks more and more like the real deal, and it could bring a delightful drop in the humidity with pleasant temperatures for Mother's Day weekend. That said, it won't stick around for the entire weekend, and by late Sunday, rain could be returning to Southeast Texas.
