Tom's top travel apps
Some apps can improve your travel experience

If your holiday plans include travel, then you need some new apps to make it easier and cheaper. Here are my top five apps that should improve your travels.

First, check out Culture Trip app, which is sort of like a travel magazine with the 'best of' recommended by locals. It lets you make a wish list where you can save all your favorite articles and travel recommendations and tips.

Hopper is an app that tracks flight prices and recommends whether you should buy that airline ticket now or wait. It even gives you details on exactly what date to buy.

Hotel Tonight helps you book same day hotel rooms, often at big discounts. You can also use it to book in advance but the best deals are same day.

If you're taking a driving trip, try iExit. It lets you know what's near every highway exit, from restaurants to gas stations and ATMs. Want to find a favorite place like Whataburger? Just mark it, and iExit will tell you if it's on your route.

If you're traveling to Europe, try Rick Steves' Audio Europe Travel app. It's a free app that lets you listen to audio files on European cities and attractions like museums.
