CROSBY (KTRK) -- Dozens of dead cows are being removed from an overturned trailer accident just inside the beltway near South Lake Houston Parkway.
The accident happened a short time after 4am at the Crosby Freeway.
Eyewitness News was told that about 25 cows are in a corral, but unfortunately many more did not survive the crash.
Sheriff's deputies say there were 123 cows in the trailer at the time of the crash, some of the cows that did survive had to be put down due to their injuries.
As for the accident, it looks like the driver lost control of the 18 wheeler as he was entering the ramp to get on to Highway 90.
A large skid could be seen from SkyEye behind this accident, showing just how far the trailer rolled over on its side and then slid for more than 100 yards before coming to a halt.
We spoke a few moments ago to the owner of the company who says the driver is OK.
Early expectations were that the freeway would remain closed for four to six hours.
