2-year-old dies after being found in backyard pool

NEDERLAND, TX -- Officials say a 2-year-old boy has died after being found unresponsive in a pool at a home in southeast Texas.

Nederland police say the boy died Monday evening. Police say the boy, Greyson Paul Meche, unlocked the back door of the house in Nederland, located near Beaumont, and climbed into an aboveground pool in the backyard.

Authorities believe the family was in the process of getting ready to swim.

Police say the boy's mother found him in the pool after seeing the back door open. The boy's father began CPR until emergency crews arrived. The boy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the accident is being investigated, but there are no signs of neglect or foul play.
