Teen's assault on bed bug causes $300K in damage

MOUNT AIRY, Ohio (KTRK) -- Firefighters say a teen who was trying to kill a bed bug ended up setting his family's apartment on fire.

The 13-year-old is responsible for causing more than $300,000 in damage after he reportedly used alcohol and a match to try and kill a bed bug.

The district fire chief in Mount Airy said three adults and five children are now without a home after the fire.

Chief Marc Monahan said the fire, although unintentional, caused "significant damage."
