Eight former officers tied to the deadly Harding Street raid have had charges dropped accusing them of engaging in organized criminal activity.
"I'm happy they see the liar that Gerald Goines is," one wrongfully condemned person said during the start of the convicted murderer's punishment phase.
From 2008 to 2019, former Houston police officer Gerald Goines was the primary investigator in 441 criminal cases and the only witness in 164 of those cases.
It's a verdict five years in the making. On Wednesday, a jury found former HPD officer Gerald Goines guilty of felony murder for his role in obtaining a no-knock warrant that led to the killing of a couple in 2019.
The former Houston police narcotics officer's alleged lie that led to the Harding Street raid has shifted law enforcement policy and overturned convictions, but jurors were not able to learn that during the trial.
