HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are looking for a man who led them on a short chase in a stolen car early this morning.

Officers saw a white Chrysler near Belford and MLK around 1:00am. When they ran the license plate, officers discovered the vehicle had been stolen in a robbery near Post Oak and South Sam Houston parkway around 10:00pm last night.

The driver then led police on a short chase that ended when he crashed into a pole at Edgewood Park in southeast Houston.

"They attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver led them on a short chase just around the corner to the park where he bailed out, left the vehicle, ran on foot," said HPD Lt. Larry Crowson. "We called in the K9 and helicopter to search the area."

Police found a cell phone and a pistol in the car, but say the driver got away.
