HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston Rockets guard Sterling Brown suffered facial lacerations when he was assaulted Sunday night in Miami where the team was set to face the Heat.
According to a statement by the Rockets, Brown had "no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants." He is expected to make a full recovery.
Brown was already not expected to play in Monday night's Rockets-Heat game due to a prior knee injury.
The 26-year-old signed in the offseason with Houston after spending the first three seasons of his NBA career in Milwaukee.
Before Sunday's incident, Brown, who is also an alum of Southern Methodist University, was notably involved in encounter with a police officer in Milwaukee back in 2018.
Brown is averaging 24 minutes a game this season as one of the key bench players for the Rockets.
