A home in Splendora is still smoldering after a fast-moving fire in which one man died

SPLENDORA, TX (KTRK) -- A man is dead after he was trapped in a fire in Splendora, TX.

The home near Frye Road started to burn around 11pm last night.

The flames were intense and moved fast, gutting part of the home within minutes. Eyewitness News' Steve Campion reported this morning that the fire was still smoldering more than 12 hours after the fire broke out.

The fire department says they made several attempts to get inside the home, but the fire was just too powerful.

Crews found the 58-year-old homeowner dead inside a bathroom.

There's no word yet on what caused the fire. Investigators tell us no one else was inside the home at the time of the fire.
