CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- In an instant, a family of four was killed in Conroe. Today, the man accused of killing them expected in a Montgomery County courtroom.
It all happened on a Sunday in September. Ron Cooper's car spun out of control on Highway 105, went into oncoming traffic and then slammed into another car.
Now the 68-year-old man is expected at a pre-trial hearing after he was accused in the crash that killed a family of four, including Harley Sedlmeier, 6, and Sofie Sedlmeier, 4, and their parents, 49-year-old Ronald Sedlmeier and 42-year-old Melinda Sedlmeier.
Family, friends mourn the loss of the Sedlmeier family
ABC13 has learned an expected plea deal between prosecutors and Cooper will not happen today, but that the suspect at the center of this case is still expected at the hearing.
Cooper has been held in the Montgomery County jail since the accident, and has not bonded out.
He is accused of causing that accident while being high on oxycodone and valium.
Investigators say he is charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter, plus two counts of intoxicating assaults.
A second doctor has also been charged in connection with the accident
If Cooper is found guilty, he could face up to 120 years in prison and up to $60,000 in fines, but his lawyers say a plea deal will keep him from trial.
