HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A pedestrian was killed while walking down a road in north Harris County on Sunday night, the Harris County Sheriff's Office said.

According to deputies, a red 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on the 12400 block of Aldine Westfield Road when the driver hit a pedestrian, identified as Ruben Torrones.

The sheriff's office said Torrones was walking northbound on Aldine Westfield Road and failed to yield right of way to the Tahoe.

Investigators said the impact propelled the pedestrian up in the air, and he landed in the adjacent grassy area.

Westfield Fire Department paramedics pronounced Torrones dead at the scene, deputies said.

HSCO said an investigation is underway and the Tahoe's driver is cooperating with investigators.
