In May of last year, deputies say 78-year-old Jerald Wayne Skaines was hit and killed by a vehicle on Old Washington Road in the Waller area before the driver took off.
A suspect is in custody after a standoff with law enforcement at a northwest Harris County home on Friday, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was shot at another location before being driven to the Katy-area home.
Harris County officials said the suspect was upset about a previous incident and went to the person's house, started smashing windows, and was then shot by the other person.
After investigators initially said the child was a 3-year-old girl found wandering alone overnight, they later confirmed the child was a 4-year-old boy, who has since been reunited with his family.
The sheriff's office says deputies just happened to come across the drivers racing, adding that they were going 90 to 100 miles per hour, or even faster, around the South Loop.
