HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office say the body of a 20-year-old man was found at an apartment complex on Thursday afternoon.
Deputies told ABC13 they responded to The Standard at Champions apartment complex off FM-1960 and Champions Drive after receiving a 911 call from the victim's mother.
The man, identified as Troy Styles, had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said.
According to HCSO, the man's mother tracked her son's cellphone to the complex and found him.
A sergeant tells ABC13 gunshots were heard in the area on Wednesday night.
"There's a security guard here at the complex who didn't see anything," Sgt. Jason Brown with the Harris County Sheriff's Office said. "But he did hear the gunfire and never found him."
A spokesperson with the sheriff's office told ABC13 on Friday that they aren't sure if Styles was shot at the complex or if his body was dumped there after being shot at another location.
He said there weren't traditional pieces of evidence, such as shell casings, at the scene.
Right now, investigators don't have details on the circumstances of the shooting, but are asking the public for help.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact HCSO's Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
