Houston's slab community honors man killed in Paradise City

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- On Sunday, slab cars lined bumper to bumper in southwest Houston to honor the life of a man shot and killed last Saturday.

The street was packed with people there for 33-year-old Miguel Padilla, also known as Mike. They said he was a legend in Houston's slab car community.

"My words won't do justice as far as all of the people of all different races and spaces that came just to show their face and show love and their condolences to the family," said supporter, Pico.

The community said they came together to honor one of their own.

"We really come out to support my guy Mike from the blue slab line North Side," said friend, Polo Saucy. "Mike is pretty big. He's kind of like a big brother to the blue slab line."

Padilla's wife told ABC13 she's processing her grief one day at a time.

"It's hard. I think I'm just going with the flow, rolling with the process right now," said Padilla's wife, Monica Castillo.

She said seeing all of the people come out to support, confirms to her what she already knew about her husband.

"Clearly, he was loved by everybody," Castillo said. "He spread love and joy everywhere he went."

It's been just over a week since his death. According to the Houston Police Department, the fatal shooting happened last Saturday morning around 5 a.m. outside Paradise City.

Officers said Padilla was pronounced dead at the scene and another man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believed what started as an altercation inside the club spilled out into the parking lot, and someone opened fire into a crowd, hitting multiple people.

On Thursday, HPD released surveillance video from inside the club.

Officials wanted to question the people seen in the footage, because they believe they may have been involved in the fight that led to gunfire outside.

Police said the people they want to question may have been riding in a red or maroon sedan and a white SUV.
