HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- One person is dead, and another is injured after a shooting just west of the Gulf Freeway on Saturday morning, Houston police said.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened at around 5 a.m. at a gentleman's club called Paradise City.

When officers responded, they described seeing a chaotic scene with a large crowd and multiple victims on the ground.

One man, who appeared to be in his mid-30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Another man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

Investigators said it started with an altercation inside the club that moved outside into the parking lot. One person fired a gun into the crowd and struck multiple people, officers said.

A security guard returned fire, but it's unclear if he struck anyone, police said. HPD said the security guard stayed on scene, cooperated with authorities, and gave a statement.

In video from the scene, you can see the security guard being taken into custody. Police have since said he is not a suspect, and that there is no suspect in custody.

Authorities said a light colored suspect vehicle fled the scene with multiple people in it, but investigators don't know if there was more than one shooter.

Video from the scene also shows police examining a gun belt.

Family and friends of at least one of the victims were at the scene, emotional and consoling one another.
