HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- If your commute sometimes includes the Alabama Street bridge, you may want to seek alternative routes for about a year.
The closure on the bridge starts Thursday night.
The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said the closure is for work on the major I-45 makeover.
TxDOT said crews will demolish the bridge, which connects Third Ward and Midtown, as part of the project.

Now, to demolish the bridge, crews will also close all northbound lanes of Highway 59 between US-288 and the Alabama Street bridge starting Friday until Monday morning.
Then, a week later, the southbound lanes of Highway 59 will be closed for the demolition.
TxDOT said the bridge will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2027.
