EquuSearch founder Tim Miller expected to take stand again in day 2 of 'Texas Killing Fields' case
GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Testimonies continue on day 2 in the trial of James Elmore Jr., who is charged with his alleged role in the notorious Texas Killing Fields.
Elmore Jr. is charged with manslaughter in the death of Laura Miller and is accused of tampering with evidence in the death of Audrey Lee Cook.
Both women were found in a remote oil field off Calder Road in League City in 1986. At least two other women's bodies had been found in the same area between 1986 and 1991.
While 61-year-old Elmore is charged in connection with the case, he was not the prime suspect. Officials said that he helped Clyde Hedricks, his longtime friend, by supplying a vial of cocaine that was given to Laura Miller and reportedly helped move her body.
Hedricks died by suicide in custody at TDCJ in March just before the case was going to be presented to a grand jury.
Miller was the daughter of Texas EquuSearch founder Tim Miller. Miller took the stand on Tuesday and gave an emotional recount of the last few moments with his daughter before unleashing on Elmore Jr. He is expected to take the stand on Wednesday.
In court, Tim Miller said that he and Elmore Jr. came into contact after Elmore called him, stating that his own daughter was missing, but then began revealing non-public details on Laura Miller's death.
On the first day in court, the defense did not give an opening statement but questioned the reliability of memories of events that occurred over 40 years ago.
Elmore Jr. faces 20 years in prison if convicted.
