RICHMOND, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston man received life in prison for a 2021 murder, according to the Fort Bend District Attorney's Office.

District Attorney Brian M. Middleton announced on Wednesday in a statement that 49-year-old Antonio Derrell Jefferson received a life sentence for the shooting death of Michael Brown.

According to lead prosecutor Madison Limbacher, Houston police responded to a report of a body found inside a home in the Quail Run neighborhood in May 2021. The officer found Brown dead inside the home, according to officials.

The DA's statement read that two AR-15 rifles were found in Jefferson's possession that were identified as the murder weapons through a forensic ballistics analysis.

Home surveillance video also showed Brown entering the home with Jefferson but never leaving, the statement added.

According to the DA's office, Jefferson then made incriminating phone calls from jail, including outlining his motive for killing the victim, adding, "any[one] turn against me, [they] on a... road called highway to heaven."

During the punishment phase of the trial, the statement read, the state presented evidence of Jefferson's past felony convictions for burglary, aggravated assault, and drug and firearm possession.

The jury reportedly took less than an hour to sentence Jefferson to life in prison.
