9-year-old child injured by celebratory gunfire in east Harris County, sheriff's office says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A child was rushed to the hospital on Saturday night after being hit by celebratory gunfire in east Harris County, authorities said.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, a family was celebrating in the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Park Drive when a bullet struck the 9-year-old child in the arm. Investigators said initial information indicates that the bullet came from celebratory gunfire.

The child was taken to the hospital for their injuries and is expected to be OK, officials said.

The exact source of the gunfire is still unknown, authorities said, and the investigation remains ongoing. HCSO urged the public to help identify the person or people responsible.
