HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman and a toddler are dead after drowning in a pond in the Spring Lakes neighborhood of north Harris County, according to the sheriff's office.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said it was dispatched to the 900 block of Spring Lakes Haven at around 6 p.m. on Sunday after reports of a drowning.

Investigators said that a 2-year-old child and a 74-year-old woman were rushed to the hospital, where they were both declared dead. Investigators initially said only one of them had died.

Officials said both were recovered from a neighborhood pond, but how they got into the water remained unknown. Investigators also added that the two victims knew each other, but authorities have not publicly confirmed their relationship.

Detectives said an investigation is underway.

Satellite images show the Spring Lakes neighborhood has small ponds surrounded by walking paths and homes.
