HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A Houston attorney has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of his roommate in late June, according to court documents.

The Houston Police Department shared that the shooting happened June 27 at 11:55 p.m. in the 1600 block of Vassar Street.

Officers said they responded to a shooting call and were flagged down by Michael Driver, who identified himself as the alleged shooter.

Documents state Driver told police he was in a fight with Jesse Reyes, who is his "best friend" and "bodyguard," when Reyes got into his face and got violent.

Driver also accused Reyes of trying to gouge his left eye out and that it was a "kill or be killed" situation, records alleged. During the incident, Driver said he pulled a gun out and fired at Reyes multiple times.

Authorities added that Reyes is one of the people living in the home the shooting took place at. Investigators also reported finding a .45-caliber handgun in the dining room.

Documents show Driver is an attorney at Driver Law Firm.

An investigation continues into the case.
