2 dead after crash, fire involving 18-wheeler on Eastex Freeway near Beltway 8, HPD says

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two people are dead after a fiery crash involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle on the Eastex Freeway near Beltway 8 on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

The Houston Police Department confirmed that two people died at the scene, but did not say which vehicle they were in.

All southbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway in the area were shut down after the fiery crash, according to Houston TranStar's website.

Houston TranStar first reported the incident as a "Heavy Truck Accident" involving two vehicles and a "Vehicle Fire" on IH-69 southbound near Beltway 8 at about 4:55 p.m.

Cameras showed multiple fire crews responding to the scene, with smoke near the stopped vehicles.
