HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Deputies say an investigation into a man's shooting death is underway in west Harris County on Friday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Precinct 5 deputies responded to the 21600 block of Park Brook Drive just before 6 a.m. and found a man shot in front of a home. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the man was pronounced dead at the scene, adding that one person had been detained.

The sheriff's office said the shooter and other people who lived at the home were at the scene when deputies arrived. Deputies said the man who fired the shots is cooperating with investigators.

HCSO Sgt. Michael Ritchie said they're still working to sort out the exact circumstances, but says it seems the two men knew each other.

"My detectives are interviewing the witnesses and the people that were at the home when this occurred," Ritchie said. "From what I understand, it's more of a family violence type situation, and again this wasn't a stranger... the complainant might have been an ex-boyfriend of a woman that lives at the home. It might've been coming to try to reconcile or talk things out, so again, we're still trying to confirm that."

The sergeant said they're working to figure out is if the evidence leads them to believe this was self-defense or murder. He said they aren't sure if the man who came to the door was armed or not but that it will all be part of their investigation, adding that this case will likely go to a grand jury.
