HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Drivers in northwest Harris County were experiencing major backups on Highway 290 due to a large big rig fire on Tuesday.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said a FedEx 18-wheeler caught on fire, shutting down the inbound lanes of Highway 290 at Grand Parkway.

The lanes reopened at 11:20 a.m., but delays lasted for several hours westbound at Becker as well as 290 Eastbound to the 99 split.

The big rig driver was taken to a hospital for minor injuries, and no hazardous materials were inside the vehicle, according to Gonzalez.
