Parents charged with child abandonment after leaving 3 kids in home with trash, bugs, feces: Records

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Two parents are facing child abandonment charges after the Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies said their three children were left inside their home with disgusting living conditions.

According to the HCSO, on Saturday, a neighbor called for a welfare check at the home in the 19100 block of Clevera Walk Drive in west Harris County because of trash bags piled outside the home and a bad odor coming from the house.

Court documents state the odor inside the home Saturday evening was so overwhelming that the responding deputy initially believed someone may have died inside the house.

There were three children inside the home, records stated, with ages 11, 13, and 15. The sheriff's office said one of the children has autism.

Inside the home, charging documents stated there were animal feces, full trash bags, food covered in mold, and insects. Also, the fridge contained no edible food, and there was spoiled food throughout multiple bedrooms.

The Sheriff's Office said the parents, identified as Bradley and Kimberly Lord, returned to the home about 40 minutes after the deputy arrived. According to the sheriff's office, Bradley Lord became "extremely belligerent and uncooperative" during the encounter.

Child Protective Services were called, and Kimberly and Bradley were charged with abandoning with intent to return. Bradley told ABC13 that this situation has not impacted their custody of their children.

The Houston SPCA's investigations department also served a notice of investigation for animal cruelty Monday afternoon. Multiple dogs were still inside the home as of Monday evening.

Bradley and Kimberly appeared in court on Sunday and were both released from jail.

ABC13 asked Child Protective Services whether there had been previous investigations at the home, but was told that information is not public.
