HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed that one person has died after a crash near a train track early Monday.
The crash happened near Kuykendahl and Dowell Road just after 2 a.m., officials said.
SkyEye13 flew over the scene, where the train was seen stalled on the tracks with the crossing rail down. The impacted car was also seen several hundred feet ahead of the train.
HCSO spoke with the train's conductor, who said the 73-year-old driver had been hit by the train while trying to go around the rails and became stuck.
Officials reportedly had to walk along Hufsmith Road to reach the crash scene because the train was blocking the roadway.
Traffic was stalled for hours are officials worked to remove the wreckage and get the train back on track. Shortly before 10:30 a.m., officials said the train had been moved and traffic began flowing.
The driver, whose identity has not been released, was said to be the only person in the car, according to HCSO.
