FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 10-year-old child was airlifted to the hospital after suffering serious injuries in an e-bike crash in Fort Bend County, according to authorities.

The child was struck by a vehicle while riding an e-bike on a roadway, according to the Willowfork Fire Department. The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office confirmed the child is 10 years old.

According to Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable's Office, the driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.

Officials did not say where or how the crash happened, but did say that the child's injuries were so severe that they required transport by medical helicopter.

Officials did not provide any details on the vehicle that crashed into the child.

In a social media post, Willowfork FD urged the public to practice bicycle safety and always wear a helmet when riding.
